The Society of Volumes

Last night I went to the launch of The Society of Volumes. Involving a group of visual artists and musicians this is described as:

"a group of artists who believe that art speaks to each of the senses. We create art that expresses this in our own individual way. Although we each have our own voice, we recognise that each voice has its own volume, and that collectively, our voice is stronger. Our voice can become louder when it is part of a group - part of a Society - The Society of Volumes."

Its founder members are Katharine Scott, Hilary Insall, The Jackson Family, Azure Art, Ben and Tixia Henderson, and Clinton Frazer.

If I ever doubted that there was colour and creativity in this town I am now sure that there is. Art thrives with the encouragement and surrounding of other artists.

The art of The Society is not limited to 2D paintings, but embraces all other art forms as well - poetry, music, dance, sculpture, kinetic artwork and films.

The exhibition is on at Cass Art, 103 Clarence Street, Kingston KT1 1NW until 11 March.
